October 6, Lake Dardanelle, AR. Blair High School’s Matt Neiburg and Zach Madsen were advised before the tournament to just keep presenting baits to the fish and sooner or later they’d provoke a bite. It was good advice. By continually throwing Senkos they steadily built a five fish limit of exactly 15 pounds. It was enough to win the event and a coveted place in the FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship next year.
Trevor Yates and Wyatt Smith representing Little Axe High School and Depew High School of Oklahoma were the only other team to weigh a limit in the cooler conditions. Their 13 pounds of bass was good enough for second place.
The Arkansas Greenbrier High School duo of Devin Baxley and T.J. Miller lured four fish for 9 pounds 2 ounces and third place.
This tournament was the last qualifying event for the 2013 FLW/TBF High School Fishing National Championship, to be held next year in conjunction with the FLW College Fishing National Championship. Just one high school team from each of the five Conference Championships made it through to the final, the venue for which still hasn’t been determined.
